‘Scream 6’ Melissa Barrera Confirms When the Next Movie Takes Place

Our last girls are going to New York City, but Ghostface won’t be too far behind them!

Scream 6 Melissa Barrera is the newest cast member is one of the show’s rising stars. she has officially made it to the top of our list for a celebrity tea party. The amount of tea she spills is never too much, but rather the perfect amount for the occasion. Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who play sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter, respectively, in the latest additions to Paramount’s Scream franchise, recently sat down for an interview in which they discussed their upcoming projects.

Naturally, the Scream franchise was one of the topics that came up during the interview. Barrera was honest with the fans when they asked him about the amount of time that had gone in Ghostface’s reality since the events of Scream 5 (which took place in that realm).

Perri Nemiroff, a reporter for Collider, recently had the opportunity to speak with the actress about her starring part in Carmen while they were both attending the Toronto International Film Festival. During our time there, we enquired about the effects that moving the crime site from Woodsboro to New York City had on the most recent generation of Ghostface’s victims.

Barrera provided an enthusiastic insight into the transition from a small-town massacre to a large city stalking, most notably claiming that the subsequent video will be “…20 times more mortifying.” Now, when asked about the spot that the sixth chapter has in the Scream timeline, Barrera was once again pleased to share with the franchise’s detective fans, which she referred to as “the smartest fandom.”

During an interview with Deadline, the very first question that was posed to Barrera was directed toward the specific topic of whether or not Scream 6 takes place after a significant amount of time has elapsed since the conclusion of Scream 5, in which both sisters survive the brutal attacks of Ghostface. Her response was immediate and unequivocal: “Not at all, this is not the case. It follows quite closely on the heels of the one before it.

The amount of time that has elapsed from the beginning of one movie to the beginning of the next movie is roughly equivalent to the amount of time that has elapsed in Scream time.” If we take into account this information and the fact that the events of Scream 5 will take place toward the end of September in the year 2021, we may estimate that the events of Scream 6 will take place in the month of November, give or take a few days. Does this suggest that our survivors have maybe moved on to continue their education in New York City?

Scream fans were given the opportunity to meet a new set of victims and villains in the 2022 re-launch produced by Paramount. In the part of Wes Craven’s masterwork that took place in Woodsboro 25 years after the initial Ghostface appearance that catapulted Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell) to the status of ’90s final girl superstar; we met some of the town’s legacy.

The younger cast members were self-aware of their place as the Main Cast’s offshoots and their reboot status, which allowed them to stay on brand with the franchise’s Meta thread, which is what gives the movies their own distinctive quality within the genre. Fans were overjoyed to go back to the dark realm, but doing so required a significant financial investment on their part. After four previous movies, Ghostface was ultimately successful in eliminating Dewey Riley (played by David Arquette), which prompted Sidney’s reluctant return.

Barrera is presented as Tara’s older sister by the ensemble cast, and both she and Ortega’s Tara will be returning to continue the conflict at a later time. In addition, Courtney Cox will reprise her role as the daredevil Gale Weathers in the sixth film, and the roles of Randy Meeks’ (Jamie Kennedy) niece and nephew will be portrayed by Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, respectively.

In addition, Samara Weaving, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Devyn Nekoda will be joining the twisted family in the narrative. In addition to that, we are all extremely pleased to welcome back Hayden Panettiere, who will be reprising her role as Kirby Reed from the film Scream 4 in 2011.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who previously worked with Weaving on the film Ready or Not, are the directors of Scream 5 and Scream 6, respectively. Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt, who had previously worked on the screenplay for the last installment, returned for this one as well, and Kevin Williamson, who had previously written the scripts for the first three films, took on the role of executive producer.

The date of March 31, 2023, has been scheduled for the release of Scream 6 in theatres. In the meanwhile, have a look at this interview that Collider conducted with the actors that will be appearing in Scream 5: Barrera, Campbell, and Cox:
