Camphor

The source of this substance that is often used in facial cleanser is an Asian tree (found in Borneo). It is perennially green and is known as camphor laurel or Cinnamonum camphora. Other trees in the laurel family, such as Ocotea usambarensis, are also a source of camphor that is entirely biological in nature. This substance can be a skin coolant like menthol and can serve as a local anaesthetic and antibiotic.
