‘House of the Dragon’ Renewed for Season 3

House of the Dragon will return for a third season! Relatively speaking, HBO confirmed the series’ renewal for a minimum of one more season only days before the June 16 premiere of the second season of the Game of Thrones prequel.

“George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon,” stated Francesca Orsi, an executive at HBO. Season two’s grandeur and scale are only matched by its heart, and we are amazed by the enormous work put into its development by the whole crew.

“We are incredibly excited to continue the story of House Targaryen and witness this team’s incredible chemistry in season three,” she continued.

With an average of 29 million viewers per episode, House of the Dragon has maintained Game of Thrones’ strong popularity. A few weeks after last year’s debut, the sitcom was greenlit for a second season. Starring George R.R. Martin, the drama takes place two hundred years before Game of Thrones.

The second season “repeats the same thrills” as the first, according to the assessment. “HotD remains a show that mistakes confusion for complexity, hurling waves of thinly-defined, often interchangeable characters at the audience and hoping no one will mind because here be dragons — along with some fiery performances by its actors,” summarized a review by Alan Sepinwall.

Actors like Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, and Matt Smith are among the featured cast members of season 2.

“House of the Dragon” has been nominated for nine Emmys, including outstanding drama series, and two Golden Globes, winning the award for best drama TV series in its inaugural season.
